Lame Christmas toys of the past

Česky: Hrací kovová spirála English: Metal sli...Image via Wikipedia

We all have fond memories of Christmas, but if you grew up in the seventies, there were some hits and misses under the tree. This list is about some of the worst gifts ever. Enjoy reminiscing over these “misses” for gifts. If you were a kid growing up in the 70's in particular, you may have wanted some of these gifts only to regret it later. If you didn't your parents probably did.

  1. Silly Putty- Silly Putty was fun for about five minutes. Between tasting it, and getting it dirty from all the things it was supposed to stick to, it became well, one of those gifts you just end up throwing away or losing altogether. The egg it came in, however, was a keeper..well for a minute anyway. It made a good cat toy when you put a marble in it.
  2. Slinky- What was so lame about Slinky was the fact that one little slight mishap or bend rendered the toy useless. It was impossible to fix and if you grew up in a house with no stairs, the options were even more limited for fun things to do with this toy.
  3. Lawn Darts- Also known as “death from above”, this toy had some issue. Hard to believe someone out there thought this was a good idea for kids. Yikes, These darts were pointed and weighted at the pointed end to assure it could be tossed and stick in the ground. However, if left unattended a kid could use this as a deadly weapon. Not to mention throwing it straight up in the air over your head was a good way to become one eyed.
  4. Baby Alive- This baby would eat fake food that you had to mix up, then it would soil itself. The baby if not properly cleaned would have remnants of the food remaining in its body and would get rather funky, not unlike a “real” baby. Once your parents quit buying the special food it needed, on of two things were going to happen, you were either going to realize it was no better than the other dolls you had, or you were going to sneak and put real food in its mouth and have it smelling of rotten banana in a week or two. Either way, it ended up being more trouble than what it was worth. If manufacturers had made it cry all the time too, it would have been a good deterrent for teen pregnancy.
  5. Stretch Armstrong- OK initially it seemed fun, but after a few strenuous pulls on this pretty much “inactive” action figure and you're already digging in the toy box for the way cooler, 6 million dollar man. In fact the funnest part of this toy was trying to find out what was on the inside of the body that allowed it to stretch. Let's just say, well, it tasted “sweet” and it obviously wasn't poisonous...eh hemm.
  6. Pet Rock- Thanks, but no thanks. Why on earth did anyone buy this when the old backyard was a breeding ground for them? Here we all sat with a fortune in the backyard and we're buying them? Darn! I guess this was a second attempt after “Pet Dirt” didn't take off like expected.
  7. Sit and Spin- This seems like a fun toy until your toddler gets off of it and ends up falling, sure funny at first but when the nausea ensues, a messy time is had by all. A more appropriate name might have been, “Sit and Spew.”
  8. Ball and Cup- This was a cup that had a handle on the bottom and a string with a ball attached. The object of the game was to simply get the ball in the cup. After the first successful attempt, you are left with an empty feeling..so you're off to find something with a real challenge, like the Paddle Ball.
  9. Paddle Ball- Why didn't manufacturers just name it was it really was for? A good paddle for spanking your kid the minute the ball flew off and broke something? Sigh..Ouch, thanks Dad, and a Merry Christmas to you too.
  10. Weebles- “Weebles wobbles but they don't fall down.” Why would anyone remember that? Perhaps an over saturation of the market in the 70's? This toy was never fun. It never fell down, and that was part of the problem. Simply put, it's one of those toys that ends up being a toy for the family pet. If you did enjoy this toy I have to ask you, were you hit in the head with a lawn dart?

Review of Off Shoulder Sweater from One Stop Plus Online

A chic and cozy plus size off-shoulder sweater with oversized wide ribbed neckline. Acrylic knit. Machine wash. Imported.

  • Neck folds over to create an off-the-shoulder fit.
  • Three-quarter raglan sleeves
  • Side-seam pockets
  • 30" long

Pretty Thin
By Product Dudz from SC on 11/16/2011
2out of 5
Chest Size: Feels true to size
Sleeve Length: Feels true to length
Price:  $39.99 - $44.99
Pros: Stylish, Great Color, Soft, Comfortable
Cons: Pricey poor value, Thin Fabric, Poor Quality
Best Uses: Going Out, Mild weather only
This sweater is pretty but, was a tad too short. It also had pockets on the side that were at an unflattering area where the hips are. Because the pockets are not stitched down, if you have a spare tire these pockets will only make them look bigger. The pockets have no real use and should be eliminated. This sweater is very thin, and somewhat see through. Be careful of what type of bra you wear under it. Depending on what color you buy this sweater will be easy to see through. The other negative is this sweater is just too pricey for the quality of the fabric. It is thin, flimsy. A little thicker would have been nice.
Bottom line: Eliminate pockets, and make a little thicker. Ideal for cool Spring days, mild Fall weather only.
Product Dudz says: This product is neither great nor bad, its..OK

Product Review of “Renee” Cable Sweater By Denim 24/7

Bulky sweater
By Product Dudz from SC on 11/16/2011
3out of 5
Chest Size: Feels true to size
Sleeve Length: Feels long

Price:  $59.99 - $69.99

Pros:
Warm
Comfortable
Soft
Great Color

Cons:
Not flattering
Too Short
TOO BULKY

Best Uses:
Casual Wear, Cold Weather

The Breakdown:
This sweater is not the most flattering in the way that it drapes the body. It is a little too bulky and if a woman is heavy set through the middle it will emphasize this. It is also not quite long enough for anyone that is 5 foot 8 or taller it may be a little too short.
However this sweater is very thick and is a good choice during the colder months. It just missed the mark. Had it been little longer it would have draped better. The bottom of the sweater is crocheted, so you can add to the length or introduce another color if you know how to crochet.
The Bottom Line:
If you have a shorter torso and are strictly looking for something to provide extra warmth, this sweater may be ideal for you, however for heavier, taller women, this sweater seems a little bulky, too short and not as flattering to the figure.  Product Dudz rates this sweater as:

Propet Camp Hiking Boots product review

  • Removable insole, shock absorbent rubber outsole
  • 5" high top
Here's what we say:

Factory worker tested
By Product Dudz from 11/16/2011

3out of 5
Sizing: Feels true to size
Width: Feels true to width
Price: Can be found at King Size Direct on sale for
$ 67.99 - $ 71.99

Cons:
Not Durable/ Wears Easily
No sufficient padding
Too Stiff/Not Flexible
Long Break-in

Best Uses:
Average use
Heavy Loads
Day Hiking
Light factory work

These boots were tested by a factory worker that works 12 hour days and is required to walk around 7 miles or so per day. The first day of wearing these boots had the tops of the feet inflamed and red. There should be more padding in the tongue area of these boots to produce a better fit on the top. They took a longer break in period than expected.
The  Bottom Line:
These boots are fairly sturdy, and will probably last a good while, however after putting it through several days in a fast paced, rough environment they were found to be rather uncomfortable and caused some redness and soreness.  If comfort is important to you, pass these up. If  you don't have to do a lot of walking and be on your feet for 12 hours every day, these may be ok for you.  They are no better than any pair of boots you can find in any retail store.
Therefore, Product Dudz deems these boots as:

Alli Weight Loss Aid Product Review

Medication used for obesity. Orlistat and sibu...Image via WikipediaAlli is a weigh tloss pill with the generic name of Orlistat. It's claims is that when taken as directed, with high fat meals that the user will in fact lose weight. Other forms of this pill are under the names Xenical and Meridia which your doctor may prescribe. However, since Orlistat is now available without prescription there is little sense in going to the doctor for a prescription. It is recommended that you talk with your doctor before taking this weight loss pill. Why? Well there are a few side effects that was experienced by the testers from Product Dudz.

They are as follows:
Severe stomach cramping after taking recommended dosage with a high fat meal
Excessive flatulence that produced oily discharge that leaves a stain (if you are in public and pass gas, you could very well find yourself with a large stain on the seat of your pants)
Diarrhea-like symptoms that will come on suddenly and can cause uncontrollable rectal leakage

Price: Amazon lists this product at $35.99 for 60ct bottle
(which translates to about a month worth typically)

Does it work?
Well, after trying this product for several months, no noticeable weightloss was experienced. If you work in public this product is not for you. Taking this during your afternoon lunch hour could mean going home for the rest of the day.
The Bottom Line (literally)
If you notice the reviews on Amazon you will no doubt feel motivated to buy this product and give it a go. However the testers at Product Dudz caution you to realize that the people (reviewers on Amazon) that had the greatest success with this product improved their lifestyle with diet and exercise. Those experiencing little change did not do anything different with diet or excercise.  Product Dudz is thereby inclined to believe that anyone will experience weight loss by diet and exercise alone with out the use of Alli or Orlistat. Product Dudz feels people may be giving credit falsely to Alli where their own efforts were the genuine cause for their success.
Product Dudz also cautions you to further investigate the link at the bottom of this post about information posted on the Alli website with regards to health and safety.
This product causes very unsavory, inconvenient side effects from oily stain producing gas and stools to severe stomach cramps, and abrupt diarrhea like symptoms. You must speak to your doctor about this diet pill because some people on certain medications and with certain conditions should not take Orlistat in any form.
Gas, Oily stains, Diarrhea, Cramps, =DUD, Product Dudz gives this product a thumbs down. It simply isn't worth all of the unpleasant side effects.

Truvia vs. Stevia In The Raw Extract which tastes better

Truvia vs. Stevia

NUTRITIONAL STAT COMPARISIONS

COST COMPARISONS:

Truvia
$3.34 per 40 ct.
box of packets

Stevia In The Raw
$2.82 per 50 ct.
box of packets

THE BOTTOM LINE:  Which tastes better?

While Stevia In The Raw was the clear winner with regards to price, extensive testing on both products for taste suggest that Truvia is the clear winner. Both have some after taste, but Stevia In The Raw left a lingering bitter taste on the pallet, and when added to coffee did not sweeten the coffee very much  but add a different layer of bitterness and flavor to the coffee itself, that being said you can "get used to it" in the effort to steer away from other man made sweeteners. Stevia In The Raw was also used to sweeten Iced Tea with same less than ideal  results. This product seems to work better when used in beverages by the glass, not in large quantity like pitchers of tea or lemonade. It does taste rather acceptable when used for individual glasses of lemonade. The sourness of the lemonade does seem to disguise some of the unpleasant aftertaste.
Truvia used in coffee was sweeter, however it seems to take a little more to make it sweet enough to bother with. Clearly, the substances isomaltulose and erythritol make a difference in products like Truvia and PureVia and how they taste. Neither Stevia In The Raw nor Truvia rise to the description of a "great" sweetener, Truvia simply was more palatable.

As with all products, Product Dudz suggests you do your own evaluation and feel free to add your
opinion to our comments. After all, it's the voice of many that truly effect change and the voice of many that we are inclined to trust.  For a great healthy beverage, see this recipe using Stevia sweetener: Healthy homemade lemonade.

**Testing will continue until Product Dudz can find a natural sweetener that gets the best results.

(Photo credit: Wikipedia) We at PRODUCT DUDZ reviewed this product and found it works very well, two thumbs up! One negative is it is extremely high priced for a sunblock, selling for over $30.00 If price is a consideration, try less expensive brands of sunblock. Many that are for use on children are the best overall for protecting your skin and safety.

THE PROS

Big Set
This set is huge you get a lot of pots and all have a beautiful mirror finish.
Lifetime warranty
This set has a limited Lifetime Warranty
Easy to clean
I fried an egg in the omelet pan, made cheese toast and also sauteed onions. The pan looked ruined, however after adding some warm water and using a scrubbie sponge with little effort all came off easily!
Nice weight/Professional quality
The entire set is weighty and of excellent quality.
Accessories
This set comes with loads of accessories and utensils including a bakeware/glass/storage set of bowls with lids that seal.
Lids with strainers
Some of the pots have strainers built right into the lids so draining things like veggies and pasta is a snap!

 THE CONS
There are very few cons with this product.

Handwash is best to clean this set, see link below on how to get best results...
Although this product is dishwasher safe, it will retain its beauty and luster if you hand wash only. That being said it still looks pretty good even when you use the dishwasher.
Too Big
Some families will have trouble finding storage for such a large set, however for big families this set is ideal
Stainless Steel
While most professional chefs prefer stainless steel cookware, it does require a little extra care and food can and will stick if the set is not used properly. Do not cook on high settings for best results. Be sure to follow the Care Guide that comes with the set.
Throw away pieces
Some of the pieces in this set are not of the best quality, the Panini/grill pan for instance is very lightweight, the tongs do not open and close easily, etc.

THE BOTTOM LINE
This set is a grand, beautiful, and most pieces are   professional quality. The set  offers beginning cooks all the cookware and bakeware needed to set up housekeeping.  Its strong and durable and will certainly stand up to years of use. Whether you are just starting out or a serious cook this set is one to have. It is the opinion of this reviewer and Product Dudz that this set is  worth the current sale price. It's a keeper!

Great Low Carb Product suggestions from Product Dudz

A low carb lifestyle is a good idea for most people, even those not on a diet. Reducing the amount of sugars and carbs early in life will set up a healthier eating habit for the whole family. Here is a list of products that will help you cut the carbs without sacrificing the flavor.

Steviva Blend- this non sugar sweetener is natural and studies suggest it is a healthier alternative to other sweeteners on the market like Nutra Sweet and Splenda. This product contains stevia. Stevia has been approved by the FDA as a dietary supplement only. Replaces sugar 2 to 1. Low calorie, low carb, low gycemic, gluten free, no maltodextrin, and no gmos. Steviva Blend is ideal to bake and cook with. Steviva Blend has less than 1 calorie and less than 1 carbohydrate per serving making it safe for diabetics. May be used in hot or cold liquids, sprinkled on cereals and fruit, or in any way that you wish to use this revolutionary dietary supplement. If you can't find this in your local grocery store, see www.netrition.com for this product.

Almond flour- A natural flour that is un-blanched, gluten-free and very flavorful. Due to the fact that it's not de-fatted, this low-carb substitute is an excellent source of essential fatty acids that occur naturally in almonds. With Almond Flour, you can add color, texture, richness and flavor to your baked goods as well as everyday meals. Use to coat chicken, beef and fish for a delightful and low-glycemic departure from breadcrumbs and white flour. A great brand to try out is Now and it can be found at many grocery stores and online. See: Almond Flour here

Almond Milk- If you have never tried Almond Milk, I'd have to say you're missing out. When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, every little calorie counts. Almond milk has a very special place in a lighter lifestyle. At just 60 calories for a serving of our Original flavor, and 90 for a glass of Vanilla, it's a calorie-smart choice that’s easy to love.
Smooth, refreshing and indescribably yummy, almond milk can be used everywhere milk is used – from cereal to coffee to straight up in a glass – but with fewer calories than 1% milk.* And just like dairy milk, almond milk is an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D. All that, with the subtle, satisfying flavor of real, natural almonds. You can find Almond milk in your local grocery dairy section where regular and soy milk products are sold. A great brand is Silk Almond Milk and Almond Breeze.

Carb Counters Thick It Up Low Carb Thickener- One thing that many people on low carb diets hate is not being able to have many flour based gravies, and sauces. Carb counters thick it up can do this and be used in a wide variety of ways. Great for Soups, Gravies, Sauces, and Fruit Fillings.
Its all natural, with no artificial ingredients and no preservatives.

Therma Care Heat Wraps product review

Pain is a problem we all face, whether it is in your knees, your shoulders, your back, finding relief even for a few hours is paramount to our physical and mental well being.
Therma Care Heat Wraps promises to relieve pain, does it? Let's take a closer look:

How it works
Therma Care heat wraps produce a heat immediately upon opening the package. There are "heat cells" that are encapsulated into to wrap that begin generating heat quickly after being taken out of the wrapper. The heat cells are the part of ThermaCare® that provides warmth. These cells contain a mixture of ingredients (activated carbon, iron powder, sodium chloride, sodium thiosulfate, sodium polyacrylate and water) that react with air to provide low-level heat. The chemical reaction is called iron oxidation, which occurs naturally in the environment.
ThermaCare® wraps begin to activate before they’re put in the foil pouch. Once the pouch is sealed and the air inside the pouch has been used up, the wrap will stop heating. Even though they’re exposed to the air for a very short time, this doesn’t affect the performance. ThermaCare® will last 8 hours.

The pros

Therma Care delivers heat directly to the source of pain
Therma Care heat wraps continue to heat up to 12 hours (even though they only advertise 8 hours).
Therma Care  comes in a wide variety of styles depending on where your pain is located, such as: Lower back and hip wraps, neck, wrist and shoulder wraps, knee and elbow wraps, and even heat wraps to alleviate menstrual cramps.
Sturdy velcro closures that do not come undone, even after a full night of sleeping.
Price-For around six dollars you can purchase Therma Care heat wraps for your pain. There are two per package which makes this an excellent value.

The cons
I could only find one con, and that primarily has to do with sizing of this product especially for the wraps that are made for lower back pain specifically. Even though Therma Care Heat wraps are generously sized, it would be great if they made some extra large sizes. If your waist is over 46 inches and you purchase the lower back pain Therma Care Heat wrap, this product may prove to be a challenge to get on.It would be great to see this product offered in even larger sizes.

The Bottom line

I have purchased this product several times and I find that it does exactly what is says it will do. It relieves pain for 8-12 hours and can be worn throughout the day and works far better than heating pads. This product is a Winner!

Flattering (not the opinion of the reviewer) color and creamy consistency enhances all skin tones

Made in USA; makeup sticks made in Italy

The Rundown

This kit is average at best. It is supposed to have a retail value of $144.00, however that would be grossly overpriced, fortunately someone knows this and has the price set appropriately at $39.95. The fact that some of the items are manufactured in  Italy is no real factor in its performance.

Caviar No Transfer Foundation with Spirulina Glow Core- The foundation stick works average, gives  good coverage. The same can be said of the blush product. None were notably better than most average/similar products found in retail stores. The meltdown cream is unimpressive, can burn eyes and does not remove make up any better than baby wipes or Pond's cold cream. The only advantage is this product is not greasy and smells nice.

Caviar No Transfer Color Stick with Spirulina Glow Core for Face & Eyes- This product works average, however it is not very attractive as an eyeliner. The reddish hue makes one seem as though they have been rubbing their eyes, simply unflattering. Adrienne Arpel's "one color fits all" falls short with her line of blushes, eyeshadows and lipsticks and offers little choice and variety.

Industrial Strength Line Be Gone 24 Hour Eye Ointment
- This does little to "erase" any wrinkles, in fact it seemed to highlight them and is somewhat greasy.

Industrial Strength Microsphere Night Creme- Not impressive, skin does feel slightly firmer, but there is nothing about this product that is noteworthy.

Morning Pearl Creme- This product does add a glow to the skin and is great on top of the foundation for a "glow". Also can be used alone. This product was unique and could serve well as a make up highlighter.

Lipstick-  This lipstick is creamy and feels good on the lips, however its color is a little too drab, and isn't the most flattering shade for fair complexioned people or blondes. It is a brownish red color.

The Bottom Line
It is the opinion of the reviewer that while this product has a reasonable price, it would likely not be purchased again due to the fact it simply was unremarkable when compared to it's claims. A reasonable price can not make up for the fact that is just simply isn't impressive and doesn't deliver results better than other products that are similar.
